2023 George Eisenbarth Memorial Lecture award

The George Eisenbarth Memorial Lecture - at the annual conference of the Network for pancreatic organ donors with diabetes (nPOD) - is one of the most prestigious awards for researchers working to discover the causes of the disease and new therapies for type 1 diabetes.
This year, Decio L. Eizirik (WEL Research Institute - ULB) has been selected as a speaker for this conference. His research focuses on the mechanisms of pancreatic beta cell dysfunction and death in type 1 diabetes. His talk is entitled: "Impact of individual cytokines on human beta cells - surprises and new directions". This lecture will be on the program of the 15th annual meeting of the nPOD in Ferdinanda Beach, Florida, USA on February 26, 2023.
The Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) program, supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, is the world’s largest open research consortium dedicated to the study of the human pancreas. Founded in 2007, the JDRF nPOD biorepository supports the collection of pancreata and related tissues from organ donors with type 1 diabetes (T1D) which are made available to scientific investigators around the world.
