Alessio Franci (WEL Research Institute – ULiège) received the 2025 George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award from the IEEE Control Systems Society for an exceptional paper recognized for its scientific quality and impact on the control systems community.

The award-winning publication, “Nonlinear Opinion Dynamics with Tunable Sensitivity”, authored in collaboration with Princeton University, represents a significant advance in the study of nonlinear opinion dynamics by introducing tunable sensitivity mechanisms supported by rigorous mathematical analysis. It is recognized by the community as a significant contribution to the field of control and the study of complex dynamical systems.

More broadly, Alessio Franci’s research blends brain-inspired computing with control theory, with applications spanning neuromorphic engineering, computational neuroscience, robotics, and smart sensors. He develops rigorous mathematical frameworks for intelligent systems while also pioneering novel, theory-driven hardware designs—advancing both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of control theory.
